BOOK EXCERPT: The Concept behind the Athlete Matrix

posted in: Finance | 0

The Athlete Matrix is a way to understand the totality of your life. It gives you a chance to take a 30,000-foot view of your world. It says, “Hey, I understand that your world is complicated, but you can make it simple.” You can uncomplicate your life by learning all the different elements that connect your world and that are competing for your time and interest. The Athlete Matrix helps you, the athlete, navigate your career and your life.

I think about it like this: The CEO of a company may not know or be the authority of every facet of his business. He or she occupies the seat as head of the corporation, they have an arsenal of specialists—from a Director of Finance to a VP of Marketing—to focus on particular departments within the company. A CEO understands that each department requires skilled and competent people to run it.

Starting now, I want you to begin thinking of yourself as an Athlete CEO. In that role, you must have a vision for your empire because you are the primary visionary of your domain, your world. If you identify what things and people are competing for your time, energy and money, you’ll understand how they are all connected to ensure that your world view is functioning at an appropriate level.

Taking control of each component is what differentiates the successful athlete from the non-successful athlete–or an effective CEO from an ineffective one. So more than anything, it’s about possessing knowledge and awareness of your environment and being able to control each sector. In this book, I’m going to show you how to manage each component successfully.
