10th season in the NBA
This season marks my 10th season in the NBA (all with the Warriors). With the talent level in the league these days, it's tough to stay in the league for 10 years, let alone with the same team. So with at, I am truly grateful.
In terms of my conditioning and my body, I'm in the best shape in my career. I've lost almost 30 pounds over the summer. So, I'm a lot leaner. I spent a lot of time working on my free throws. So, I'm a lot better now. And in terms of my confidence, I know what I can do. I'm not disillusioned about that. With that in mind, I'm very optimistic. I know my game is pretty much gutter-ball (you go into the trenches and you go to work). And I will continue to love to do that.
This is going to be a good year for the team. In case you've been living under a rock over the past six months, the Warriors have hired a familiar name to the coaching staff - Don Nelson. With coach Nelson, you have someone who's not going to be outcoached very often in the fourth quarter. And he's going to have a team that will be well-prepared every gamenight. And you will have guys who are now veterans (especially Jason Richardson, Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy) who have proven themselves over and over again in the league. So, you're going to see a very finished team. A team that will execute very well and a team that will play smart in the fourth quarter.
Don Nelson is a proven leader. He's been in the league for a million years. He knows the game inside out. He's played it and he's taught it for years. And he has a system that he is very comfortable with.
As far as expectations go, we don't really know what those expectations are. What we do know is that we have a chance to win every time we take the floor. And that's the biggest compliment. Coach Nelson wants smart players. And if he gets what he wants from his players, we will do well. Every place he has gone to, he has been a winner for the most part. And I don't see that changing here.
