Preseason Notes
Adonal Foyle and the Orlando Magic are off to a fast start in the preseason. And even though these games don't count, the Magic should be feeling good about how the team is coming together with a new coach and a few key newcomers - including Adonal.
After playing his first 10 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, Adonal got off to a solid start. In his first game in a new uniform, he scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds against the Atlanta Hawks in just 16 minutes. The next game, Adonal played 23 minutes and scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots. It didn't take long for coach Stan Van Gundy to realize that Adonal was going to play a integral part of Orlando's success this season.
Van Gundy plans to use big lineups most of the season and take advantage of Adonal's defense to compliment the all-around game of teammate Dwight Howard, who has arrived as the Eastern Conference's next big star. Together, Foyle and Howard will make it difficult for opposing players to drive into the paint.
The Magic are looking to rebound from their first-round exit from the playoffs last season. Along with Adonal, the Magic also brought in Rashard Lewis and Marcin Gorat to help take the team to the next level.
Barring any injuries, there's no reason why the Magic can't contend for a Southeast Division title.
