A Day in the Life of Adonal Foyle (in the Offseason)
Basketball fans are often curious about what the average NBA player does during the offseason. But just because players are out of the limelight doesn't mean they're not thinking hoops.
Just as they do during the regular season, players put in just as much time focusing on their game during the offseason and returns to training camp without a hint of rust.
Adonal Foyle is no exception. The Golden State Warriors center is focused and ready for what he hopes to be another solid season. Despite the dedication and hard work he's put into his own personal workout program, he admits it's not easy.
"I get up every morning around 8:30 a.m.," Foyle said. "I eat my breakfast, ride my bike to the gym and I play basketball for about two hours."
"What you want to do is develop new habits and work on old ones," Foyle said. "You want to maintain a repertoire and also add some dimension. I always want to give the court something new."
During those two hours, Foyle focuses on his all-around game, such as his shooting and rebounding. From there, the exercise doesn't end. He spends three hours between playing racquetball, riding his bicycle and lifting weights.
Basketball continues for Foyle - this time, it's actual games. The 6-10 center will complete the day by playing pickup games - at his own gym, the Warriors practice facility or at U.C. Berkeley -- with friends, teammates or other NBA players.
"I usually do the same thing Monday through Sunday," Foyle said. "If I'm feeling sore, I'll take a day off."
Outside his routine, Foyle will also attend basketball camps (such as the week-long Clifford Ray Camp in Sarasota Florida).
This past season, Foyle played in all 82 games of the season - the first time in his six-year career. And with a strong work ethic, he's committed to surpass last year's team goals, as well as personal goals.
"I feel I owe that to the game," Foyle said. "As players, we're fortunate to play an amazing game and be rewarded tremendously for it. I take pride in my (offseason) workouts. I'm very dedicated to it."
