This Offseason

By Adonal Foyle

Hello All!

I want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July weekend. Please be safe and don't forget why we are celebrating this weekend.

A month removed from the NBA Finals, I've had a chance to really take things easy, look back and appreciate the kind of season we had in Orlando. We didn't quite reach the ultimate goal of winning the NBA championship, but it was truly an amazing journey that I will forever cherish in my heart.

Last weekend, the NBA Players Association had its annual meetings in Las Vegas and as First Vice President of the Union, I want to congratulate Derek Fisher for being elected President for another term.

This offseason, I plan to keep busy. I'm a free agent so I'm staying in shape, playing in the San Francisco Pro-Am League. I'm also gearing up for my Athletics and Academics basketball camps in the Bay Area and my Island Basketball Camps back home in the Caribbean. Before I know it, training camp will be here.

Speaking of NBA stuff, I know there have been some newspaper articles about me contemplating retirement. So I just want to set the record straight. I want to play at least two more years in this league. I still enjoy the game and I know I still have something to offer. Playing the game is an awesome feeling. And I would still like the opportunity to contribute to a team.

This late in my career, I don't have a lot of restrictions. I got to experience the opportunity of competing for an NBA title and it would still be great to compete for a championship, but that's not the priority. I just want to play. With that said, I'm a little bit more open to anything. There's no denying that I'm not getting any younger. And when you're a player in this league, you have to think about transitions and what's next for you in your career. There's no doubt I'm thinking about my life after basketball, but for right now, I want to enjoy the ride a bit longer and continue playing.

Free agency began on July 1. I'm in no hurry to sign with another team; I will entertain offers from anyone who wants me and hope that I will be with a team two months before the start of the season.

I will check back soon with updates regarding my offseason. Have a great summer.
