Western Conference Semifinals
By Adonal Foyle, with Chris Navalta
After celebrating the euphoria of beating the No. 1 seed Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs, we went back to work and are now focused on our next opponent - the Utah Jazz.
We split our regular season series with the Jazz (2-2) and we feel that this is a team we can definitely play with.
We were able to handle Dirk Nowitzki in the first round. But Utah, as a whole, is big. And they're skilled and they like to go under the glass a lot. We're going to have to beat them off the glass if we want to be successful. If we can get some rebounds or some deflections, we think we can be enormous in this series.
We also have to keep with our running style. That's our strength.
In order for us to win this series, we know we have to win at least one game in Utah. History is definitely not on our side. The Warriors, as a franchise, are 14-56 all time when playing in Salt Lake City and we haven't won a game there since Nov. 25, 2005. We're hoping to reverse that history. That's just the reality.
In the first round, we didn't feel any pressure on us. We were just thrilled to make the playoffs. At this point, with all the national attention, I think there's a little more pressure on us in terms of approaching the game and doing what we want to do. There's no doubt that we're going to be in every game, the way we play. And we're always going to be going down fighting. But if we don't play the way we're capable of playing, everyone is going to say 'Well, they did well. Yada, yada, yada.' But if we can go in and play well against this team and beat them, I think that's going to send a very loud message.
Wish us luck, More to come later on.
