On Becoming the Warriors' All-Time Leading Shot Blocker
By Adonal Foyle, with Chris Navalta
Earlier this year, I passed Joe Barry Carroll as the Warriors' all-time leading shot blocker. I kept that ball and it is currently sitting upstairs in my house. When you look at my output and effectiveness last season and how much I played, clearly I was in a much better position. I used the whole of last summer to work on my game, and then I felt that this would be my best season. It's not necessarily my fault in terms of getting limited minutes on the floor. So, that record-setting night came at a bittersweet moment.
It was such a great honor to reach that level, but it also showed me where I need to go and what I can do. It's truly amazing, to do something as awesome as being in the all-time list among any category. I'm just truly
grateful for the people who have come before me and showed us how to do it. I'm also thankful that blocked shots is an actual category in the NBA. Way back in the days, they weren't counting blocks. I'm glad it became a category because there's something that I can associate myself with. I am now able to leave a mark someplace in the Warriors organization.
As we head into the second half of the season, my only hope is that we continue to play hard and give the fans something they can be happy about. I hope we can continue to build trust within the team and each other's abilities. And I hope we can continue to improve as a united team.
